A Different Comedy World!
Laughter Is The Best Medicine
More important than anything else is the health and safety of every single person on the planet. And a big thank you to the frontline workers in this fight against Covid-19
April was a slap in the face to Stand-Up Comedy. Every comic at all levels across the world have been sitting at home. Many of us have had harrowing stories about getting home from their last gig. Thankfully, everyone that is associated with The Comedy Green Room are safe and healthy. Big shout out to Ms. Kate Davis, Mr. Jason Blanchard, Mr. Lars Callieou and Mr. Paul Adams. I am relieved that you wonderful humans are home and feeling well.
So, what is next for Stand-Up Comedy? That is the big question on comics minds. When will clubs re-open and how will they adapt to the new normal whatever that normal is?
Like any other industry Stand-Up Comedy must adapt! If we do not grow and adapt to the situation then we perish. Clubs and comics around the world are changing the way they present the shows. Online shows are becoming bigger, better, and more frequent. Platforms such as Facebook Live, Instagram Live, Twitch, TikTok, and Zoom are being used. We must have patience considering that this is a learning experience for all of us.
Traditionally, Stand-Up Comedy is an art form that gives the performers instant validation of success or failure though the audience. It will take comics some time to adapt their acts to an online delivery system. Think of how comics/actors had to adapt from the silent era to talkies.
Stand-Up Comics need to be on stage and have an audience as much as we need to breath. Our identity and self-worth are directly tied to our profession. When we kill then all is good with the world, and when we bomb, we examine every decision we have ever made in our lives. So, delivering our acts in a different format is both exhilarating and scary.
From the comics I have spoken to many of us are taking this time to learn new skills or bushing up on things that they have not had time to do previously. Change is the only constant in life, and I am glad Stand-Up Comics are adapting.
Stand-Up Comedy will survive as it always has, and it will be stronger but different. Different is good! Remember Laughter is The Best Medicine.

David Reuben, President, of The Comedy Green Room is thrilled to welcome the “All Joking Aside” team to The Comedy Green Room Family. I would like to thank
Producer, Jon Ornoy, Director, Shannon Kohli, Elizabeth McCarthy and the rest of the “All Joking Aside” team for welcoming The Comedy Green Room to this exciting stand-up project.
All Joking Aside is a feature-length comedy film about the barriers women face in the entertainment industry, told through the story of one young woman committed to beating the odds and pursuing her dream of becoming a stand-up comic. It’s 2018, and despite making up more than half of the world’s population, women still only count for about 10% of the performers at comedy clubs. If we accept that women are just as funny as men, the question becomes why are there not more female comics, and what can we do about it?
