I first met Paul Adams through his father, comedy writer Charlie Adams. Charlie was the first UK comic on The Comedy Green Room. Charlie suggested I check out his son, stand-up comic Paul Adams.

We hit it off and Paul was invited to perform at The HogTown Comedy Festival (TM) in Toronto ON Canada. Paul decided to move to Toronto and performed in comedy clubs and bars throughout Canada and the USA for about 2 years. Paul's clean and funny comedy style was a refreshing change to the Toronto Comedy Community from 2004 to 2006.

Mr. Paul Adams new book Diary of a Locked Down Comedian is a funny, charming, and insightful look into his pandemic experience. Check it out!

Lawrence Morgenstern:

Thank You Sherry O'Brien for the photo

Another Canadian Comedy Legend has passed away. Mr. Lawrence Morgenstern was a friend, mentor, and one of the quickest minds in the business of comedy. Both on and off stage, he was razor sharp.

Many do not know that Lawrence and I went to the same high school around the same time. He was a few years younger than me; I was busy with music, and Lawrence was busy getting ready to be one of the early stars of the original Yuk Yuk's in Yorkville in Toronto.

When I started to do the Monday Night amateur show in 1983, Lawrence was already an established Headliner for the club. He would often MC the amateur shows on Monday night, and not many MCs could touch his talent.

He was always kind with his intros to me and quick with advice or a tag line. Many of the older comics on here know how hard those Monday Night years were for me. It took me a long time to figure out a fraction of what it takes to be great in this game. Yet, it came easily to Lawrence, and I would spend time volunteer to drive him or any headliner to gigs to watch, lean, and ask questions.

We became friend and colleagues and always kept in touch throughout our adult lives. However, our careers went in different directions with Lawrence becoming the head writer for Open Mike with Mike Bullard and we all know where my so called career went.

A few times over the years we would be on the same show or i would go to watch him crush it. I always like to see the people who helped me succeed and took pride in whatever little promotion I could give them with The Comedy Green Room.

Lawrence would always tease me and say, "You finally making a bit of money in the comedy game". And I would say not much but I am a 1980's cult figure in Toronto Comedy."

From the start of The Comedy Green Room Lawrence read every Monthly Newsletter. Sometimes he would e-mail me with suggestions or praise.

About 5 years ago I was hosting a Saturday Night show at Deb's Comedy Den in North York and Lawrence happened to walk in. He had been recovering from a surgical procedure. I asked him if he wanted to do a set and he did not want to disrupt the show. I said, I finally get to introduce you after all the years of building me up on Monday Nights.

--

Ladies and Gentlemen, you may never have heard of this man, but he is a giant in Canadian Comedy. Young comics in the room, you can only dream of reaching the heights of our next guest. In the old days if an establish act walked into the club, the booked act would be bumped down a spot. I have the honour of introducing my friend, mentor, and a true Canadian Comedy trailblazer: Mr. Lawrence Morgenstern.

--

First time I ever saw Lawrence speechless. But then he crushed it for 12 min.

RIP Lawrence

The Man from Philadelphia:

A Kevin Christopher Movie: Coming Soon

The author, David Reuben, first met Mr. Kevin Christopher [Herod] in the early 2000’s. Like all great entertainers Kevin changed his surname! LOL Kevin was a young and hungry stand-up comic. Kevin was hitting all the open-mic shows and trying to get noticed. And noticed he did; Nominated for Second City Tim Simms Encouragement Award, moved up the latter of the Yuk Yuk’s Comedy Chain and got noticed by The Nubian Comedy Revue.

Recently I got the chance to reconnect with Kevin thanks to are mutual friend Mr. Roy Daye. Today he is an author, cartoon voice actor, musician, and producer. The Man from Philadelphia is Kevin’s new movie.

Extended Synopsis

The Man from Philadelphia is a story about a time when an entertainment business manager named Markus, is publicly fired from his role as boy band manager for the mismanagement of finances. Upset that he found these young men and transformed them into glorious performing pearls only to be discarded, Markus enacts a plan to bounce back with two new musical acts, one female model, actress, song bird and the other act being a rap duo.

As the quarterback of the two new musical act’s introductions to the world, Markus, played by Comedian Kevin Christopher, planned to have the rap group burglarize his sweet innocent R&B acts family-owned jewelry store, hoping the 6 o'clock nightly news catches wind of it and intern help boost sympathy publicity for his R&B act and maybe a couple of months gangsta jail time props for his rap group.

The plan backfires, the new acts flop on the same day he signed them, but Markus isn't one to keep things bottled up he's gonna talk and talk and talk it out poetically a'la Edar Allan Poe style with his fingers crossed for his win!
